Native American legends tell of a Great Healing Spring in the Eureka Springs area. People of various indigenous cultures long visited the springs for this sacred purpose.Later it was thought the springs had medicinal value so it attracted tourists from all over. The Crescent Hotel was built in 1886 and the Basin Park Hotel in 1905. The Crescent is said to be one the most haunted hotels in America.
